Should My Non-Estranged Child Advocate for Me?
The short answer is no. It’s problematic in numerous ways:
- It puts your non-estranged child in the middle of your conflict
- If your child has estranged himself or herself from you, they’re never too far along to estrange themselves from their siblings or anyone else
- Estranged children always feel ganged up on in this scenario
- It will cause your estranged child to feel like your non-estranged child is taking your side and he/she will feel hurt and misunderstood by that.
- What about asking anyone else such as close family friends, revered grandparents, aunts, uncles?
In general, same answer. In all of my years of doing this work, I have never seen a good result come of this.
